The Prayagraj administration is working hard to ensure that the greatest facilities are available to the people arriving to attend the Magh Mela. According to rumours, the mela will begin on January 14 next year.Meanwhile, the North Central Railways (NCR) is preparing to open 60 sleeping pods at the Prayagraj railway station in preparation for a big influx of pilgrims for the Magh Mela celebrations, which begin in January. According to experts, these pods will provide pilgrims with a comfortable experience and be compact and cost-effective.
Each pod, which measures eight feet long and six feet wide, will be available for hire at a cost ranging from INR 500 to INR 1,500 for a 12-hour period, using a flexi-fare system. The hotel, which will be located in the old booking office on the Civil Lines side of Prayagraj Junction near the demolished footbridge, will also have its own cafeteria, according to officials.
According to sources, these pods will be operational before the inaugural Magh Mela bathing event on Makar Sankranti (January 15), which will kick off the 54-day carnival. A Pune-based company won the tender for installing the ‘sleepling pod’ hotel project that the Prayagraj division of NCR published a few months back.
According to the sources, the sleeping pods will resemble capsule-sized rooms and will provide all modern facilities such as phone charging, Wi-Fi, locker rooms, and restrooms. There will be 60 sleeping pods in total, 45 for single travellers, 10 for double occupants, and five for small families, with an additional 10 pods dedicated specifically for female passengers.
