Overview
Out of 114 railway stations across the country, 21 in Kerala have received the esteemed “Eat Right Stations” designation. This award, which was given by the Meal Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), highlights the dedication to offering passengers hygienic and nutritious meal options. The accreditation assesses stations based on several factors, including food inspection, hygiene, and water quality. The project, which is a component of the larger ‘Eat Right India’ campaign, guarantees wholesome, safe, and sustainable meals for everyone while encouraging health-conscious behaviours at train stations.
In recent years, 114 Indian railway stations were awarded the esteemed ‘Eat Right Stations’ accreditation; Kerala accounted for 21 of these stations, making it the top state in this regard. This accreditation demonstrates the station’s commitment to providing its patrons with sanitary and nutritious food options.
Only 1% of the 7349 railway stations in the nation receive this distinction, with certifications from the Food Safety and Regulations Authority of India (FSSAI) given to stations that follow food storage and hygiene regulations. Kerala stands out among the other 199 stations because 21 have been awarded the coveted certification.
The main goal is to ensure that food is clean, nourishing, and safe at train stations. This certification ensures that food handling and preparation practices are followed safely in catering companies within stations, including booths.
Stations must pass inspections for food items, pest management, cleanliness, sanitation, and water quality to be awarded the certificate. The certification is a component of the Eat Right India effort, notably the Eat Right Railway Station campaign, which is led by the FSSAI.
All food vendors at railway stations, including restaurants, food courts, organized catering units, small vendor kiosks, retail stores, and booths, are expected to follow safe handling and cooking procedures under this initiative. Affirmed by an independent business appointed by the FSSAI, the accreditation ‘Eat Right Station’ is awarded to stations that show excellence in providing safe and healthy food to passengers, with a grade ranging from one to five.
A station’s unwavering dedication to providing that clients have access to secure and sanitary meals is reflected in its 5-star rating. Ensuring sustainable, safe, and nutritious meals for all residents is the primary goal of FSSAI’s ‘Eat Right India’ project, of which this certificate is a crucial component.
The program uses an eclectic approach that includes independence, capacity-building, regulation, and teamwork to support environmentally and healthy eating habits.
