Surrounded by nine hills and an oval-shaped valley in the centre, it is a natural jewel, hence the English name “A Jeweled Land” or “Manipur”. India’s first Prime Minister dubbed Manipur the “Jewel of India”. Manipur is a cultural melting pot and a natural gift to India. Both the sport of Polo and the classical dance style of Ras Lila originated there.
